Cysteinyl leukotrienes undergo enterohepatic circulation

1986
Abstract Enterohepatic circulation is an important mechanism responsible for extension of the biological half-lives of many endogenous compounds and xenobiotics (1). Cysteinyl leukotrienes play an important role in lethal endotoxin action (2) and in tissue trauma (3). In the rat, cysteinyl leukotrienes are eliminated from blood preferentially into bile (2) and subsequently into feces (4). In humans, elimination into urine predominates over elimination into feces (4) , raisin., the question of intestinal absorption and enterohepatic circulation of cysteinylleukotrienes.
