Animal Models: Promises and Problems

The promise that a model of a mental illness holds for us is that once the model has been developed it should be relatively easy to not only determine the etiology of the illness but to effect a cure. The problem is that it is not easy to develop a true model of a mental illness. It could be that animal models are not possible because mental illnesses may be uniquely human disorders.
