Evaluation of Biocompatibility of Cu-Al-Be-Mn Quaternary Shape Memory Alloys Using Antibacterial Test by AGARWELL Diffusion Method

2019
Abstract Toxicity of a material upon placement in patients’ body triggers the immune system to elucidate an appropriate response. Thus, one of the fundamental responsibilities is to shield patient from any unwanted reaction. Cu-Al-Be-Mn Shape Memory Alloys containing 10-13 %wt. of Al, 0.4-0.6 %wt. of Be, 0.2-0.3%wt. of Mn and rest copper is prepared by ingot methodology by the help of induction furnace. The samples were subjected to bend test to determine the Shape Memory Effect, corrosion test in Hank’s solution (simulated body fluid) and fresh water, Antibacterial test by Agar Well Diffusion Method to check biocompatibility of the SMAs. Also, the samples were subjected to spectrophotometer for composition analysis, SEM before and after corrosion and EDAX after corrosion
