Management of Superior Mesenteric Venous Thrombus in cystic fibrosis related liver disease

2020
Abstract Abdominal pain is a common feature in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) and CF related liver disease (CFLD). Superior mesenteric venous (SMV) thrombosis is an uncommon but important cause of abdominal pain. Management strategies are complicated by an underlying prothrombotic state and increased risk of bleeding from complications of CF and CFLD. This review addresses clinical presentation, detection and management options of an acute SMV thrombus in the context of CF.
