Dynamics of rogue waves based on a Gaussian pulse with tunable noise modulation in optical fiber

2020
Abstract We have numerically investigated the nonlinear dynamics of a Gaussian pulse with tunable noise spectrum. Different from the nonlinear propagation of the pure Gaussian pulse, the pulse propagation modulated by the noise can cause the production of rogue waves (RWs) via modulation instability. The dynamics of rogue waves generation depend strongly on the initially noise bandwidth and the incident pulse power. In addition, we have briefly discussed the resistance of rogue waves formation to laser jitter. These results confirm that rogue waves can be controlled by selecting the appropriate source parameters in practical applications.
