Soft x-ray amplification in laser-produced recombination plasma

We made a 2-D simulation of a laser-produced recombination plasma on a magnesium gutter target for the purpose of moderating a steep density gradient produced in the freely expanding plasma. As a result, it was found that a spatially uniform density region is formed in the neighborhood of the wall of the gutter, still providing a comparatively high gain for the Balmer-α transition in hydrogenic ions.
