Clinical Use of Free Superficial Temporal Fascia Flaps In Hand and Foot Reconstruction

1991
The reconstruction of the wounds over hand and foot calls for thin, non-bulky, pliable and vascularized flap especially around joint, over vital tissue such as bare tendon, vessels and nerve. The superficial temporal fascia flap meets all these requirements and can be used to cover deficits up to 12 x 14 cm in hand and foot. The vessels are large and the anatomy is constant. It is a versatile flap for the plastic surgeons. We present 31 cases of clinical application of free superficial temporal fascia flaps, 14 cases in hand and 17 cases in foot. The clinical applications and techneques are discussed in detail.
