2012
Objective To describe the epidemiological characteristics of typhoid in Henan province from 2004 to 2011.Methods A descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data of typhoid collected from National Diseases Reporting Information System in Henan. Results A total of 1163 typhoid cases were reported in Henan from 2004 to 2011 with the incidence rate of 0.1541 per 100,000 population The incidence of typhoid from 2004 to 2010 showed a downward trend while in 2011 it showed an upward trend(Z=-15.2217,P0.0001).The peak was in August(Z=6.1259,P0.001).The differences of the incidence rates among cities had statistical significance(χ2=489.9969,P0.001) with the highest in Sanmenxia,Pingdingshan,Xinyang and Jiaozuo. There were 682 male cases and 481 female ones, and the incidence of male was significantly higher than that of female(χ2=25.2137,P0.0001).Most cases were children under 5 years old.Farmers, students and scattered children were the major targets of infection. Conclusions The incidence of typhoid is still high in Henan, therefore epidemic surveillance should be strengthened especially on those with higher risks in peak season and places with high incidences.
