Vesical varices in neobladder secondary to portal hypertension

2009
Abstract Vesical varices is a rare entity, the most common cause being attributed to schistosomiasis infection. There have only been two previous case reports of vesical varices secondary to liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension but there have been no documented reports of vesical varices in a neobladder. Vesical varices secondary to portal hypertension is rare as the bladder wall is an unusual collateral route for the venous splanchnic circulation and tends to occur when the usual splanchnic bed collaterals are unable to develop. We report a case of vesical varices of a neobladder arising from portal hypertension secondary to cirrhosis.
