Miniaturized Broadband Antipodal Vivaldi Antenna with High Gain and its Array

A miniaturized and high-gain antipodal Vivaldi antenna (AVA) is presented in the paper. Plasmonic metamaterials are loaded to the edges of the antenna for miniaturization and high gain. The antenna with size of 94×70×1.6mm3 was simulated by use of CST. The simulated impedance band is from 1.8 GHz to more than 10 GHz. Meanwhile, the gain of the antenna can be increased by 2 dB in the range from 2 GHz to 6 GHz. A 1x8 Vivaldi phased array is presented. Its scanning angle is over 45° and the gain can reach 15 dBi at 4 GHz.
