Abstract The interaction of exogenous, synthetic human atrial natriuretic peptide [(hANP) (ANF 99–126)] and of exogenous insulin was investigated in six healthy men and in seven type I diabetic patients using the euglycemic clamp technique. A primed-continuous (1.0 mU/kg × min) infusion of biosynthetic human insulin was administered to acutely raise and maintain plasma insulin concentrations at approximately 75 to 100 μU/mL during four hours while plasma glucose concentrations were maintained constant at the fasting level by a variable infusion of glucose.
