The U.S. department of energy's initiative in advanced coal cleaning for acid rain control

1990
The Pittsburgh Energy Technology Center (PETC) is responsible for managing the U.S. Department of Energy's coal Preparation Program. As a result of a detailed technical and economic analysis, PETC has identified advanced coal cleaning as a potentially cost-effective method of controlling SO 2 emissions from coal-fired boilers. The specific objective of this program is to provide, by 1992, the engineering design base to allow for private sector scale-up of two advanced physical coal cleaning processes, selective agglomeration and advanced froth flotation. This paper is a review of the status of several key projects that focus on advanced physical fine coal cleaning as a near-term acid rain precursor control option
