OTOSCLEROSIS IN IDENTICAL TWINS

Otosclerosis is still one of the important unsolved problems of otology, and any light which may be thrown on the subject is of value. Because of the tendency of the condition to occur in members of the same family, a study of the family of a person with otosclerosis has always been of interest. When, in addition, one can study a pair of identical twins suffering from otosclerosis, there is hope that something new may be learned. Few cases of otosclerosis in identical twins have been reported. The most extensive article on the subject is that of Shambaugh Jr., 1 who reported 3 instances of otosclerosis in identical twins. Shambaugh and Shambaugh 2 had previously reported 2 instances.
