Impedance study on inhibition of mild steel corrosion in 1 M HCl medium by 2,9-chloromethyl-1,10-phenanthroline

2003
The effect of addition of 2,9-chloromethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (CMP) on mild steel dissolution in 1 M hydrochloric acid is studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) at free corrosion potential. The effect ofthe potential both cathodic and anodic (E = -600 mV, -300 mV) on the corrosion behaviour of mild steel in IM HCl with addition of 10 - 3 M of CMP was studied. The results obtained showed that CMP acts as a good corrosion inhibitor. Trends in the increase of charge transfer resistance and decrease of capacitance values also show the adsorption of the molecule on the metal surface.
