Early Diagnosis of Diabetic Vasculopathy by Thermo-Regulatory Vascular Impairment

2020
Diabetes is one of the chronic diseases that affect people across the globe. Diabetes will lead to a lot of complications if not treated properly. Diabetic Mellitus is a metabolic disorder which shows elevated sugar levels in the blood over a prolonged period. According to senses taken in 2017, 8.8 % of the adult population worldwide was estimated to be diabetic which would shoot up to 9.9% by 2045, i.e. about 6042 million people would be affected worldwide. If diabetes is left untreated, it may lead to various diseases like diabetic retinopathy, diabetic neuropathy, stroke, and heart attack. Prolonged diabetes results in a vascular impairment which might lead to diabetic complications like diabetic foot, diabetic neuropathy. This work is an effort to study the thermoregulatory behavior of the blood vessels of both diabetic and non-diabetic subjects to understand the thermoregulatory changes due to diabetes and its improvement over the period. For diabetics, if disease management is not efficient, they are subjected to a high risk of developing diabetic vasculopathy. In this work, a method is proposed to find out vascular impairment using the thermoregulatory behavior of peroneal blood vessels. A clinical study was carried out involving six subjects and the result obtained showed an accuracy of 83.2%.
