The invention discloses a synthesis method of (R)- or (S)-a-methyl Lily aldehyde. The method is technically characterized in that in the presence of a catalyst, the 2-methyl-3-(4-tert-butyl phenyl)-allyl alcohol is subjected to asymmetric catalytic hydrogenation to produce (R)- or (S)-2-methyl3-(4-tert-butyl phenyl)-propyl alcohol, the (R)- or (S)-2-methyl3-(4-tert-butyl phenyl)-propyl alcohol is oxidized to produce the (R)- or (S)-methyl Lily aldehyde. For the synthesis method, the raw materials are easily available, operations are simple and convenient, and the optical purity of products is high.
