coating structure for confining molten material in gas turbine engines.

1995
The present invention relates generally to gas turbine engines, and more specifically relates to coatings used to confine burning materials melted in the heart of the turbine engine. The invention proposes to apply a bond coating 52 on the inner surface of the outer casing 48 engine; and applying a coating of insulating thermal barrier 54 on said bond coat, the thermal barrier coating having a melting temperature higher than the expected temperature of the burning material and higher than the melting temperature of the outer casing of engine. Advantageously, the bond coating comprises a Ni-Co-Cr-Al-Y and the coating insulating thermal barrier comprises a stabilized zirconia coating. The engine outer casing may then include titanium and titanium alloys.
