Anchor Wire Design for Drop Anchor near the Pipeline

2009
In a recent platform installation design, the connecting wire rope is required to pass a crossing pipeline. In order not to damage the pipeline, the wire rope has to be lifted up from the seabed to prevent the wire rope from touching the pipeline.A hollow cylinder is fixed onto the wire rope, whose buoyant force will lift the wire rope up to a certain height above the seabed. In order to determine the position to fix the cylinder,an iterative procedure is developed, with which the applied force and the length from the anchor to the fixed point and that from the fixed point to the ship can be estimated. The procedure for determining the length of the anchor rope can help the engineer to design the anchor and wire rope system with more accuracy. The proposed procedure can solve even more complicated problems with difficult design limitations, such as avoiding the existing pipeline and seabed communicating cables.
