Analysis of Intelligent Goods and Local Decision Making

2009
The overall purpose of this paper is to show the value of intelligent goods and, more specifically, the value of decision making and information storage on a local level. This approach constitutes a complement to central decision making in for instance Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. To achieve this, the authors have identified a number of functions for which intelligent goods might bring added value. Information as well as relevant actions connected to these functions has been considered. The paper shows, amongst others, that there are many actions/decisions that are possible to, and often should, be taken on a local level.
