PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical device that enables a user to observe the progress of sterilization in real time, and a control method.SOLUTION: A control unit of a medical device acquires first reception light data obtained by detecting fluorescent light emitted from a treated site irradiated with light at a first time and acquires second reception light data obtained by detecting the fluorescent light emitted from the treated site irradiated with light at a second time after the first time. On the basis of the first reception light data and the second reception light data, the control unit calculates a change in the strength of the fluorescent light emitted from the treated site over time and generates an image for visualizing the change in the strength of the fluorescent light over time.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
