Recent trends in the development of nano-bioactive compounds and delivery systems

2020
Abstract Bioactive compounds are generally referred to as extra-nutritional constituents can be obtained from different sources. These bioactive compounds well known for their potential health benefits such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-aging, etc. properties and their promising role in the control and treatment of various diseases cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and many other diseases. Bioavailability is a key step in ensuring bioefficacy of such bioactive compounds but most of the bioactive compounds showed lower bioavailability which is a major concern. In this context, application of nanotechnological approaches through the preparation of nano-bioactive compounds and use of nanocarriers for the delivery of such compounds provides a means to control stability, solubility, and bioavailability, and also facilitates controlled release of bioactive components. Considering the recent advancements in the field of nanotechnology, in the present chapter we have focused on the health benefits of bioactive compounds, their bioaccessibility and bioavailability. Moreover, special emphasis has been on the development of nano-bioactive compounds and application of various nano-based carrier systems for their delivery.
