Demonstration of positive chemotaxis to cyclic GMP and 5'-AMP in Myxococcus xanthus by means of a simple apparatus for generating practically stable concentration gradients.
1979
A simple apparatus is described for the generation of stable concentration gradients in agar for the study of chemotaxis in gliding bacteria. Myxococcus xanthus was found to be positively chemotactic for guanosine 3′:5′-cyclic monophosphate (cGMP) and adenosine-5′-monophosphate (AMP).
