Correlation between ECLT, t-PA and PAM activity and antigen levels in healthy volunteers

1994
Abstract In this study a strong negative correlation was found between ECLT (citrated plasma) and t-PA activity (Stabilyte plasma) and a weak positive correlation between ECLT and PAI-1 activity in healthy volunteers before venous occlusion. Two groups of volunteers could be formed according to ECLT after venous occlusion: low responders where the ECLT was longer than 100 minutes and good responders where the ECLT was less than 100 minutes after venous occlusion. Significant difference could be detected between the good and the poor responder groups in the ECLT and the t-PA activity, but there was no difference between the two groups' results in the PAI-1 activity. In the poor responder group, however, more males and elevated PAI-1 antigen levels were found. According to our results ECLT represents the t-PA activity of human plasma. In controlling the t-PA activity the PAI-1 antigen level has an important role possibly through the formation of the t-PA/PAI-1 complex.
