These results provide insights relevant to conservation efforts, as artificially stored seeds are often utilized in restoration projects and long-term seed storage is used as a tool for conserving rare and endangered species. We suggest that both age and breeding history of seeds should be considered when selecting seed sources for species or habitat restorations. Further, seeds should be collected from multiple maternal plants, as there are interactions between seed age and maternal plant family.
