Clinical observation of using fluorouracil sustained-release implants during the breast cancer operation

2009
Objective:To investigate the safety and therapeutic effects of regional chemotherapy by using fluorouracil sustained-release implants during the breast cancer operation. Methods:By using the randomied contrzol method,we set the patients who had been attended on Monday and Wednesday into the control group(n = 26),the patients on Tuesday and Thursday into the implanting group(n =28).The fluorouracil sustained-release implants had been implanted in the implanting group.Post-operative toxic and side-effects, disease-free survival rate(DFSR) and the overall survival rate(OSR) were compared between the two groups. Results:The differences of the clinical manifestations(nausea, vomiting, alopecia),the result of laboratorial examinations(blood routine test, liver and renal function) and surgical incision healing between two groups were not significant(P0.05).The 3~12 months disease-free survival and the overall survival rates for both two groups showed no statistical significance(P0.05).Conclusions:The drug toxicity,DFSR and OSR between two groups showed no statistical significance. We concluded that the regional chemotherapy by using fluorouracil sustained-release implants during the breast cancer operation is safe, but further follow-up will be needed to determine whether it can prevent the local tumor recurrence and metastasis, meanwhile to improve the DFSR,OSR.
