Senderismo geológico pirenaico: Una experiencia piloto a partir de la “ruta geológica transpirenaica”

2015
The “Geological Trans-Pyrenean Route” (GTR) is a 200 km long roadside geologic itinerary which runs between Oloron (France) and Murillo de Gallego (Spain). Since its opening in 2008 around 7,000 people, including tourists and student groups, have followed partially or totally this route. Due to the existence of a dense network of trails starting at the roads of the GTR, and the interesting geoheritage existing next to it, but difficult to access, the future plans for this route include the design and implementation of geological hiking trails starting at the GTR. Following this idea, during the spring of 2014, a field trip was carried out in the Canal Roya Valley (Aragon River drainage basin) to show its main geologic features to a reduced group of people. More precisely the assistants were introduced to: (a) the sedimentary sequence which records the uplift un later erosion of the Hercinian chain (b) the post-orogenic Anayet volcanism and (c) the landforms and geomorphic processes prevailing in this mountain valley during the Quaternary and nowadays.
