This soft-covered volume contains the 52 papers presented at the First International Headache Congress in September 1983. There are 154 author-contributors listed. A wide range of subjects is mentioned, each dealing with a specific research issue. The format of the book consists of the concise presentations that are customary in journals, and serves the purpose of bringing together a number of ideas that are current in headache studies. There is no dominant theme, although studies of the phenomenology, management, and other aspects of migraine and vascular headaches constitute the majority of the papers. Other subjects, such as the management of craniofacial neuropathic pain, are considered in a few presentations. With regard to migraine, there are several interesting papers dealing with speculations on why the headaches are unilateral.
