The invention provides a preparation method of acrylic acid modified maleated rosin. The molar ratio of rosin to acrylic acid to maleic anhydride is 1: 0.3: 0.1. The preparation method comprises the following process steps of: heating to melt the rosin under inert gas; raising the temperature to 180-200 DEG C and adding 5-15 parts of maleic anhydride; carrying out addition reaction at 180-200 DEG C for 1.5-2 hours; dripping acrylic acid while controlling a speed of adding all acrylic acid within 45-50 minutes; and raising the temperature to 250-260 DEG C to react for 80-90 minutes to obtain a product. The acrylic acid modified maleated rosin has the characteristics of light color and luster, high softening point and the like and can be applied to industrial departments of paint, ink, synthetic resin, an adhesive, electronics, a chemical industry and the like; and the acrylic acid modified maleated rosin can be reacted with phenolic aldehydes and alcohols to prepare light-color phenolic resin and various rosin esters.
