Separation of the Helmholtz equation in prolate spheroidal coordinates

This paper deals with the solution of Maxwell’s equations in prolate spheroidal coordinates when the excited fields are not axially symmetrical. It is demonstrated that, by the introduction of a suitable transform, the method of separation of variables may be employed. This provides a new solution of the more general problem of forced oscillations of a metallic prolate spheroid with asymmetrical axial excitation.
