Preventing driver drowsiness at the wheel: can steering grip sensor measurement contribute to its prediction?

2004
This paper presents the results of an analysis which has been performed in order to describe the possible relationships between an Objective Sleepiness Score (OSS) and a subjective score (Karolinska Sleepiness Scale), and variables derived from the Steering Grip Sensor (SGS) signals from the left and right hand sides of the steering wheel of a vehicle. Objective sleepiness was measured through the use of electrophysiological methods: electrical brain activity (EEG) and electrical eye activity (EOG), combined with video recording of the driver's face.
