Influencia de la enfermedad periodontal en el desarrollo de enfermedades cardiovasculares
2021
ABSTRACT
The present research work had the objective of determining the influence of periodontal disease¨s influence on the development of cardiovascular diseases employing a bibliographic review of the literature with publications corresponding to the last ten years. The articles obtained were from scientific databases such as Pubmed, Google Scholar, Dialnet, Redalyc, Scielo, Springer Link, Wiley Online Library, Hindawi, Taylor and Francis online, Science Direct, Elsevier. A total of 80 articles were obtained. Their impact was evaluated throung the Scimago Journal Ranking (SJR) system and quartiles, validation according to the number of citations (ACC), and subject to inclusion and exclusion criteria obtaining a total of 70 articles. The result was strong evidence that establishes the relationship between periodontal and cardiovascular disease, and periodontal bacteria play an important role. The presence of Porphyromona gingivalis is mainly determined in most studies as well as other pathogens but in a smaller percentage. The physiological mechanisms that relate these two diseases are: the presence of these microorganisms in the vascular endothelium triggering an inflammatory process and the release of inflammatory mediators either from the periodontal tissues with systemic repercussions or directly from the endothelial surface. The result is the formation of atherosclerosis, the genesis of several cardiovascular diseases, mainly coronary, such as Acute Myocardial Infarction, like other diseases: Infectious Endocarditis, Arterial Hypertension and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Keywords: Periodontal disease, cardiovascular disease, inflammatory mediators.
