MECANISMOS MOLECULARES QUE INTERVIENEN EN EL TRANSPORTE DE LA GLUCOSA

2007
The transport of glucose across the plasma membrane of mammalian cells represents one of the most important nutrient transport events since this sugar plays a central role in cellular homeostasis and metabolism. Glucose enters the cells through two types of carrier proteins, the sodium - coupled glucose transporters (SGLT) and glucose transporter facilitators or carriers (GLUT). This review shows the principal molecular, biochemical and functional properties of each transporter.
