Being published: A professional life in 160,000 words

2018
What is the value to occupational therapists of writing and publication in professional development? In this article, I share some of the pleasures and pitfalls of my own writing and publishing experience as a New Zealand occupational therapist. I show how this professional activity provides an array of possibilities, not just for the enthusiastic academic but also for the clinician by stimulating practice ideas. This reflection on the challenges and rewards of being published will demonstrate that writing adds to the many possibilities for occupational therapists who want to advance their professional careers. Both writing and publishing are extremely motivating, are essential for the development of the profession and an excellent professional growth activity.
