Operation Condition Model and Maintenance Strategy for Protection System in Smart Substation

2018
Low analytical accuracy and implement efficiency are general drawbacks existing in traditional maintenance for protection system, hence damaging the reliability of smart grid. Condition-based maintenance is regarded as a more efficient way to address this problem. A condition-based maintenance strategy for smart substation protection system including a state monitoring process, a fault location process and a device isolation process is proposed in this paper. Firstly, an operation condition model for smart substation protection system is presented, which includes the necessary elements that condition-based maintenance concerns. On this basis, a fault location method which can automatically deduce fault components is proposed. Lastly, an intelligent electronic device isolation method is investigated to provide strap isolation strategy. Case study has shown that the operation condition model can provide guidance for state monitoring, while the fault location and device isolation method are practical tools for maintenance staff, consequently can improve maintenance efficiency and reliability of SSPS.
