Genomics-Guided Immunotherapy of Human Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

2016
Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the leading cause of death in women with gynecologic cancer in the United States. It is the fifth most common cause of cancer death overall and in 2014, it is estimated that there will be over 21,000 new diagnoses and over 14,000 deaths from EOC. The incidence of EOC increases with age and is most prevalent in women in their 60s and 70s. The majority of these women (70%) will present with advanced stage disease (Stage III or IV) resulting in the overall poor prognosis with a 5-year survival rate of only 27%. Although treatment advances over the past two decades have extended the median survival to 65.6 months, most women will spend this time on multiple chemotherapy regimens and will succumb to their disease.
