A case of pubic symphysis separation

1994
: Perinatal separation of the pubic symphysis is very rare. According to various authors, an incidence of this complication is 1:1700 to 1:30,000 cases. We present a 30-year patient, a Rumanian gypsy (CVI, PVI) in whom pubic symphysis separation was diagnosed on the first day following delivery. A typical therapy, i.e. compression bandage with weights, was introduced. Prophylaxis consists mainly of avoiding excessive exercises and traumas during pregnancy and after delivery.
