La gripe de 1918 “La Española” en Crevillent

La gripe fue mas virulenta en Crevillent que en los otros dos municipios de la comarca. La coincidencia de las fiestas patronales en el mes de octubre y que el 40% de la poblacion habitara en viviendas cuevas pudo influir en mayor incidencia de la enfermedad y mayor mortalidad. A lo largo de los dos anos de la pandemia, 1918 y 1919 se registraron en Crevillent un total de 596 defunciones por todas las causas (incluida la gripe). EnglishThis article collects a review of the publication The epidemic of "Spanish flu" (1918-1919) in the Baix Vinalopo, which appeared in 2018. The flu was more virulent in Crevillent than in the other two municipalities in the region. The coincidence of the patronal celebrations in the month of october and that 40% of the population lived in cave dwellings could influence in greater incidence of the disease and greater mortality. Throughout the two years of the pandemic, 1918 and 1919, a total of 596 deaths were registered in Crevillent for all causes (including the flu).
