The wear resistant nano composite coating on aluminum alloys by plasma spraying technique – A review

2020
Since the beginning of plasma spray coating by R.M. Gage in 1955, it has been the domain under the discussion of research. From the past few decades, the elevation has shifted for its ruling out the applications and properties in the field of surface engineering. Due to superior properties the plasma sprayed coatings on Aluminum alloy widely used in automobile, chemical, aerospace, and electrical industries. To enhance the tribological properties of Aluminum substrate the researchers have introduced the nanocomposites like Al2O3, CeO2, TiO2, Mo, Ni, Cast iron, Al-Si, etc. The researchers have revealed that theses nanocomposites particles will result in the improvement of tribological characteristics. Industries demand new coating materials with enhanced tribological characteristics for their applications. The present article reviews the tribological properties of different plasma spray coatings on aluminum alloys.
