Solid-state magnetocaloric cooler without heat switches.

2018
In this work, the principle of magnetocaloric cooling in ferromagnetic materials based on the difference in the magnitudes of the magnetocaloric effect during magnetization and demagnetization was shown. The correct choice of the operating point and the shape of the switching pulses of the external magnetic field allows building an efficient thermodynamic cycle for the magnetocaloric cooling. Based on this principle, a solid state magnetocaloric cooler with a gadolinium-based magnet was experimentally demonstrated.
