The Nordic Intelligent Truck Hub – “NiHub”

2012
How can this project increase the attraction of energy efficient last-mile transport solutions in urban cities? What incentives can the Nordic cities provide to create the necessary concentration of goods, support energy efficiency and support an attractive business solution? City distribution today is often associated with problems such as heavy goods vehicles on already congested and polluted inner city streets, low load factor as well as illegal or unsafe parking and land in and around urban areas have a high market value and is expensive. To counter these problems this project proposes a solution integrating information for the Intelligent Truck Parking service (ITP as proposed by the European Commission) with the information for last mile delivery by merging the concepts urban consolidation centres and truck parking areas supporting the ITP service. This project develop a new concept for the interface between long haul and last mile delivery creating an energy efficient and economically viable concept for sustainable freight transports in our Nordic cities, called the NiHub. The project work is in progress, and additional information complementing this report may be presented at the time of presentation.
