Experiment study on deformation monitoring using ground-based SAR

2013
An innovative technique for the remote assessment of small surface movement monitoring, based on radar differential interferometry theory and ground-based Synthetic Aperture Radar (GB-SAR) technique, has been developed in recent years, which has some advantages over other methods to cover appropriate surface areas for monitoring day and night under almost any weather condition with high spatial resolutions. In this paper, the GB-SAR system developed in IECAS is introduced and the basic measurement principle and data processing algorithm for this system is addressed. Some mine slope surface deformation are monitored successfully by this system in China. The coherence are obtained by cross-correlating consecutive couples of SAR images and the ground displacement along sight-line can be calculated from phase variations. The advantages of GB-SAR deformation monitoring technique is validated by comparing with Leica full station results.
