Analytical and experimental analysis of steady-state processes in a single phase cycloconvertor

1994
A new analytical method for the analysis of steady-state processes in single-phase cycloconverters has been developed. A nonlinear diagram of a cycloconverter with sinusoidal input voltage has been changed to an equivalent linear RL circuit with a nonsinusoidal voltage waveform composed of half-sinusoidal segments. A differential equation is developed and solved for every sinusoidal segment and solutions for sequential segments are "sewn" together. The final equation connects the current values at the boundaries of the half period of the voltage. The solution determines the current values at the boundaries of the voltage sinusoidal segments and then, the instantaneous current is found. Thus an analytical solution of the problem is obtained. Physical experiments and numerical calculations have been carried out to verify the results and good agreement has been observed. >
