Control Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation test-bed of Power Management System for ship's power system applications

2017
In a large ship, Power Management System (PMS) which manages power system should be tested in various operating conditions and fault situations. During its function tests, the PMS should be connected to the ship's power system. However, the test has limitations due to cost, test condition and safety. In this paper, a control Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation (HILS) system is proposed for the function test of the PMS used in a vessel. The ship's power system is electrically modeled using mathematical analysis, then its dynamic characteristics can be observed and analyzed. The electric model can be simulated under not only normal operations but also fault situations so that PMS functions are fully tested under various conditions. Using a real-time simulator, the proposed model is computed with real dynamics to emulate its electric behavior as a virtual power system. The operating functions of the PMS will be verified by the proposed control HILS system.
