The effect of interleukin-6,VEGF and D-dimer in development of chronic subdural hematoma

2009
Objective To detect and analyze the levels of inflammation marker IL-6,angiogenic factor VEGF,D-dimer and FDP that reflects fibrinolytic activity in serum/plasma and lesion of patients with CSDHs.Methods 78 patients with CSDHs and 20 healthy persons were studied.Samples of peripheral venous blood and hematoma were collected and analyzed. Results Concentrations of D-dimer and FDP were all positive in the lesion, whereas they were all negative in the plasma.Concentration of VEGF in the lesion was significantly increased(P0.01) compared with that in the serum, whereas the concentration of VEGF in the serum demonstrated no different(P0.05) between patients with CSDHs and health adults.Concentration of IL-6 in the lesion was significantly increased(P0.01) compared with that in the serum, whereas concentration of IL-6 in the serum was no different(P0.05) between patients with CSDHs and health adults. Conclusions Local inflammation, active neovascularity, local hyperfibrinolysis exists in the hematoma cavity, which inevitably induce enlarging of CSDH,and may be the fundamental pathogenesis of CSDH.
