Network Slicing in Local Non-Cellular Wireless Networks: A MC-CDMA-based Approach

The emergence of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) makes wireless industrial communication systems currently a hot research topic which is in the focus of both industry and academia. Along with these systems, we also encounter challenges regarding the quality of service requirements, e.g. data rate requirements, latency constraints, different duty cycles et cetera. Consequently, the challenge for these systems is to enable different service types and guarantee the respective service requirements efficiently. Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) systems, combining multi-carrier (OFDM) and spread spectrum techniques, are known to offer high spectral efficiency, robustness and flexibility and are therefore a promising candidate in order to achieve that goal. For the CDMA part, standard Walsh-Hadamard spreading sequences are typically used in MC-CDMA systems. In this paper, a CDMA-based MAC layer design using partly overloaded spreading sequences, in order to enable network slicing functionalities of 5G cellular systems for local IIoT networks, is presented.
