Design of Traction Motor and Battery for The Modification of Old BMTA Public Bus to E-Bus

2021
This paper presents the selection of traction motor and battery sizes for electric buses, modified from the old buses of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority under condition of energy consumption standard driving cycle tests, which include the energy consumption city driving cycle test, the continuously driving test and the driving angle test. The design for selection of the traction motor and battery are based on the vehicle dynamic model and battery performance, referring to the distance and duration of bus driving. The city driving cycle testing results indicate the average energy consumption, which is 7.256% per one hour duration driving or 0.4637% per kilometer. The continuously driving testing results indicate the maximum speed, which is 78.558 km/h. The average speed is 66.075 km/h with average time of 32:45 minutes. The average energy consumption is 24.82% per hour. For the driving angle test by driving clime over the Rama 9 Bridge. The testing results enable the driving of the car on the slope without any problems or obstacles.
