Design and construction of multilevel inverter for interconnection of photovoltaic panels to the electrical network

This article shows the design and implementation of a prototype of a multi-level inverter, to evaluate different control algorithms, with the purpose of minimizing total harmonic distortion and increasing the conversion efficiency. The selective harmonic elimination technique was used. The developed system allows obtaining the waveforms of voltage, current, power and harmonic components present in the electrical network. In addition, it calculates values of effective voltage, effective current, active power, reactive power, apparent power, network frequency and factor of power with an acceptable level of precision that allows an accurate recording of the consumption of electrical energy in medium and low voltage installations. To analyze the behavior of the prototype developed for different types of loads and with different control algorithms, the PSCAD simulator was used, obtaining novel experimental results.
