QUAY WALL CONSTRUCTION IN FINLAND.

1997
A particular form of quay wall construction has been developed in Finland in recent years specifically to provide for the ground conditions of glacial origin that are encountered in that country. This paper describes the design and construction of large precast concrete quay walls that have been built at various locations in Finland. Details of dredging works for foundations, bed preparation, compaction of rock infill and final underwater levelling to receive the concrete elements are described. The methods of construction of the precast concrete elemnts, their placing in the final position, and the completion of the quay wall works are presented. Works completed in Finland are summarised.
