Retention and thermodynamics of solution of n-alkenes in OV-101

1987
Abstract The retention and thermodynamics of solution of C 8 C 14 n -alkenes (67 compounds) in the polymethylsiloxane OV-101 were studied. A series of common regularities have been established in the gas chromatographic behaviour of n -alkenes on OV-101 and squalane (SQ), i.e. , the elution order of isomers, separation into cis - and trans -isomers. Compared with SQ, the retention indices for n -alkenes on OV-101 are 5-11 units higher, and 1-isomers of C 8 C 10 are eluted before the other isomers. This may be explained by structural peculiarities of the polymethylsiloxane. Equations have been derived for calculating gas chromatographic and thermodynamic parameters of solution of inaccessible individual high-boiling n -alkenes, for which pertinent data are not available.
