Cyberseismology and Teachable Moments

In mid-2000, the USGS Southern California Earthquake Hazards Program office instituted a set of electronic mailing lists for public notifications of earthquakes. These mailing lists have proven to be quite popular and are currently up to about 13,000 subscribers.
